How does shipping a puppy work?

Puppies can be shipped anywhere in the U.S. except Hawaii. The shipping process is actually very simple as well as safe and cost effective. The puppy must be 8 weeks old to be shipped and must also be examined by and receive a health certificate from a veterinarian within 10 days of the shipping date. (Additionally, some states require a rabies vaccine certificate). We usually ship our dogs via Delta Airlines, and reservations for the flight must be made 3 days in advance of the ship date. Upon arrival at the airport, the pup is placed in a well-ventilated airline-approved transport crate (with a water dish and absorbent bedding) and received by a special division of the airline. He/she is then placed on board the airplane just minutes prior to departure, and will travel in a temperature controlled, pressurized area of the aircraft. The flight is actually not traumatic for the pup at all because he/she will sleep for most of the flight.

Meeting your new puppy!

We will notify you ahead of time with the cargo claim location for your puppy. You will need to show airport personnel identification to have your puppy released to you. Be sure to bring water (bottled works well) for your pup and allow him/her a potty break when you reach a grassy area. Enjoy your new puppy! Bring your camera and take pictures! He/she will most likely sleep in your vehicle as you travel home, but as a precaution you may want to bring some paper towels or wet wipes for accidents.

Weather for Shipping your puppy

Weather restrictions for shipping dogs state that the temperature must be between 10 and 85°F for the puppy's destination as well as any layovers so you'll want to check the temperature for your pup's destinations to see if they are within shipping range. You may find this link helpful: weather
There are some designated cargo locations with heated and air-conditioned cargo units. When shipping to one of these locations, the weather restrictions do not apply.

NOTE: Continental Airlines has a system for shipping pets allowing them to ship them in extreme temperatures, so if your location's temp is generally outside the shipping range, this may be your best option. It's generally only $50 to $125 more depending on your destination.
